First Day Wudang Mountain
Saturday, September 20, 2008

Today is the first day in Wudang Mountain. This place is a sacred place where Taoism begins. This is one of the famous mountain in China since Ming Dynasty. Emperor then had ordered thousands of soldiers and craftmens to the mountain to build historical buildings. It took them many years to finish this big project and some did not even manage to go back home after living on the mountain for years. Sounds awesome right?

We left the school at around 8am and the whole journey to the mountain is 5 hours. butt aching journey. We had a pretty good lunch at one of the local restuarant, everyone was so hungry! But the tofu tasted really very weird, like its burnt. Overall the food is quite delicious especially the black fungus and stir fried cabbage.

Initially i thought the mountain area would be quite deserted. To my surprise, there is actually a small city around the bottom of the mountain, just like the WuHan city.

When we reached the customer service area of Wudang Mountain, each of us are given a entry ticket where we were lead to bus that will drive us up the mountain. The ride was very bumpy and uncomfortable especially when the bus made a sharp turn. Luckily everyone were able to bear with the discomfort. We were shown around the area by a local tour guide to see magnificent structures built as early as in Ming Dynasty. We even saw some Taoist priest and one of them actually gladly show us some taiji moves. And i got it video-ed down!
Somewhere in the middle of the mountain, the weather was so freezingly cold. Everyone can actually see vapour coming out of our mouth. We went to another temple to take a look while some of us bought souvenirs for our love ones. Heard from some friends that the BBQ corn wasnt very nice and in fact it tasted very hard. We then took the last bus at 6.30 back to the bottom of the mountain.
After dinner we were separated into our respective hotel that were given to us. As the booking of the hotel was done on the day itself we were at Wudang, we did not manage to get enough rooms for everyone (LMGT and ECE) to stay in the same hotel. The hotel was very comfortable and i finally had the chance to relax my aching body on the soft and springy bed. Mind you, the mattress back at our hostel is SO THIN! =(
