Day Three
Thursday, August 28, 2008

Today, we started our first lesson on Business Process Engineering (BPE) at 9am with Mr. Puah. Today was just a brief lecture of the overview of BPE and the learning plan during the 6 weeks. We learnt about the 7s which includes sensitive, sensible, sharp, shrewd, strategy and system. We will be having 3 quizzes, 2 tests, 2 case studies and a group project throughout these 6 weeks. The classroom where we conduct our lesson at is reasonably clean and is definitely a conducive environment to study in.

The china people pronounce menu as "cai dan" in chinese.

After our lesson we went back to the hostel, and I went to Andy’s room to help out with the cooking. The guys’ room has a mini kitchen at a corner of the room and they have stock up all the essential food in the shelf. I helped to dice the tomatoes and fried them together with eggs. This afternoon we had rice with baked bean and tomatoes scramble egg for lunch. It was quite delicious and this is my very first home-cooked meal in Wu Han. I miss my daddy's cooking so much!

We went out at around 2pm with Lee Xuan (a friend we made in WUST) and her best friend to Zhong Shan Park. We took a bus there which costs us $2RMB and we reached the destination after 45 minutes of bus ride. I am so amazed that Zhong Shan Park is so big and it has a theme park too, it is a place suitable for family outing and date. Everyone had so much fun taking photos with each other and the beautiful scenery in the park. Some of us took the roller coaster ride which lasts about 30 seconds and it was an extremely thrilling experience. I had a good scream during the ride, something I can hardly do in Singapore. Some of my classmates went to take the pirate ship ride and from their expression I believe they had a fun time enjoying the breeze during the ride. Although there are so many rides in the theme park but we didn’t get to sit due to time constraint, but we will be back there someday before we go back Singapore.

There are people performing opera in the park.

Poor us! We had to help those who went for the pirate ship ride to carry their bags.

We went to the nearby shopping mall to explore. In my opinion, the shopping mall is almost similar to Singapore’s. Of course, no bargaining is allowed in the shopping mall but the prices are quite cheap. The shopping mall Sogo is one of the high end shopping mall where the prices are quite expensive. We went to the food court at the basement to have our dinner. Andy and I had mango ice, egg zhu chang fen and sushi together. It was indeed a very delicious dinner. The ice used to make mango ice is very fine and smooth, together with the sweet mango sauce it makes a great dessert. The interesting thing in the shopping mall is that we have a purchase a card which has value inside before we can order our food, this is quite similar to the Marche restaurant in Singapore. i think that there are pros and cons using this card. The advantage is that the chefs practice good hygiene as the money contains a lot of germs. The disadvantage is that we have to constantly top up the card if the value inside is not enough, and we may have to check out the price of the food before topping up the card.

The supermarket here in Wu Han is very big and there are various varieties of items selling here. Anything you wish to purchase can be found easily in the supermarket. One thing that I notice is the supermarket here does not sell much variety of canned food, I think the people here prefers to eat freshly cooked food.

Behind me is the Sogo shopping mall.

After a long day of shopping, we (Fiza, Amirah, Andy and me) took cab back to the hostel and it costs $30RMB for a 30 minutes ride. The driver seat in the taxi is actually covered with transparent plastic to protect the taxi driver from robbery. This is indeed a very interesting discovery.

What a tiring day. I need my sleep! Good night!
