Day One
Tuesday, August 26, 2008
Today is the first day of the China Immersion Trip Program. I spent the next three days after my last examination paper packing my luggage and doing some catching up session with my friends. On the day of departure, I reached the airport at 5.30am together with my family and boyfriend who were there to send me off. This is the first time I am leaving Singapore alone to a faraway country, China WuHan for six long weeks without any of my family members. I feel very anxious yet excited about this special trip. I am hoping that i will be able to have a fruitful and eye-opening trip.
The flight to Wu Han was very long and tiring, I spend most of the time on the plane sleeping since I did not catch much sleep the day before. Some of the students screamed in excitement when the plane took off. The seat was rather stiff and uncomfortable, I had a very sore neck and back after I got off the plane. The food provided on the plane was all right to my likening and it was not as bad as i thought. The whole journey was so boring as I only have my MP4 as a form of entertainment. The drinks sold in Guang Zhou airport is quite expensive, at the price of S$5 per can. While collecting our luggage at Wu Han’s airport, I called my family and boyfriend to report my safety. While travelling on the road of Wu Han, I was really amazed at the population and cars. In Wu Han, the driver sits on the left unlike Singapore where the driver sits on the right. We were told that the traffic in Wu Han is quite heavy and dangerous, the residents and drivers here did not observe the traffic rules therefore we have to be extra careful when crossing the road. Upon reaching Wu Han University Of Science and Technology (WUST) after a long one hour ride from the airport, we were lead to our room to unpack our luggage. I am staying in the same room with my classmates Fiza and Amirah. We were rather disappointed upon seeing our room as it look so much different from the photographs that the teacher showed us during the briefing. But the living condition was still acceptable since there is an air-con in the room. We went out of the school compound to the nearest Macdonald restaurant to have our dinner. The difference between China’s Macdonald and Singapore’s Macdonald is not very big. I had the egg and ham pie which is not available in Singapore, it was very delicious. In China, the fries comes with packets of powder to enhance the taste. The garlic sauce taste quite different from Singapore’s version. But overall, we are still able to accept the food. After our dinner, the students from WUST showed us the way to the supermarket before we headed back to the hostel. On the way back, I realized that the school compound is quite dim and it looks so dangerous to walk around the school compound alone in the night. We were told that we have to be back in the hostel by 11pm so as to ensure our safety. And it is time to sleep, so bye! Talk? 0 Talked! |
